D/ACW 19/36 1676 18th Nov | In the name of God Amen the seven and twentieth day of September in the eight and twentieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland king, Defender of the faith Anno Dom. 1676 I, Thomas Muncke of Henham in the county of Essex, cordwainer, being sick of body but of perfect mind and memory ...Item: I give and bequeath unto Margaret my wellbeloved wife All that my freehold messuage or tenement situate in Henham aforesaid wherein I now dwell with all the yards, gardens and houses and buildings thereunto belonging for and during the term of her natural life upon condition that the said Margaret my wife do keep the said messuage or tenement and all other outhouses in sufficient repair and immediately after her decease to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of George Muncke my son and of his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto said Margaret my wife all that my piece .. of arable land lying in Howe Field for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of George Muncke my son and of his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto the said Margaret my wife All that my piece or parcel of customary land lying in Copperton Field alias Hide to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of the said Margaret my wife and to her heirs and assigns forever upon condition that the said Margaret my wife do well and truly pay and discharge my debts and legacies and funeral charges. Item: I give and bequeath unto Margaret my wife All that my freehold messuage or tenement situate in Henham aforesaid which I purchased of Richard Chambers withall the yards, garden, orchards and buildings thereunto belonging for and during the term of her natural life upon upon condition that the said Margaret my wife or her assigns do maintain and keep the said tenement and buildings in sufficient repair And also not to lop or chop any of the fruit trees standing in the orchard neither fell down, chop down or .. any other trees or tree during the term of her natural life that standeth upon any part of the premises (?) belonging to the said messuage but shall preserve and keep them as well as possible she or they can from any hurt or .. thereof and immediately after her decease my will and mind is that the said freehold messuage, yards, garden and orchard and buildings with their appurtenances shall be and remain to the proper use and behoof of Ann Muncke my daughter and to the heirs lawfully to be begotten of her body forever And for want of such issue to be and remain to the proper use and uses of the heirs of me the said Thomas Muncke forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto Sarah Muncke and Susanna Muncke my daughters the full sum of five pounds apiece of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto them the said Sarah Muncke and Susanna Muncke my daughters within one whole year next after the decease of Margaret my wife by her heirs, executors or assigns And if in case the said sums of five pounds apiece shall not be well and truly paid by the heirs, executors or assigns of the said Margaret my wife as aforesaid that then my will and meaning is that the said piece or parcel of customary land lying in Copperton Field alias Hide withall appurtenances before by me bequeathed unto Margaret my wife and to her heirs and assigns forever shall be and remain to the proper use and uses of the said Sarah Muncke and Susanna Muncke my daughters and of their heirs and assigns forever according to the custom of the Manor of whom the said is holden. All the rest of my moveable goods and chattels and debts that are owing and due unto me I give and bequeath them all unto Margaret my wife towards the payment of my debts and the bringing up of my children And I do hereby make and ordain the said Margaret my wife sole executrix of this my last will and testament And I do hereby .. and make chiefs of my loving brother in law Joseph Johnson and my loving brother Nathaniel Muncke to be supervisors or overseers of this my last will and testament to see this my will performed in all things according to the true meaning thereof. Item: I give and bequeath unto my brother William Wright my little square table and cupboard standing in the hall and the cushions there and also my cupboard or press standing in the chamber over the hall and the little cupboard and cushions there to be delivered unto him by my executor hereafter named when, as he shall lawfully demand them. Item: I give and bequeath unto Mary Wright my sister All those my three parcels of customary land lying in Henham aforesaid which I purchased of Ambrose Curtin and William Wright And also all that my barns, orchard, yards and buildings with their appurtenances called or known by the name of .... or otherwise there unto adjoining and belonging to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of the said Mary Wright my sister and of her heirs lawfully to be begotten of her body forever and for want of such issue to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of William Wright the son of my brother William Wright immediately after the decease of the said Mary Wright my sister. Item: I give and bequeath unto the said Mary Wright my sister my joined bed withall the furniture thereunto belonging and standing in the parlour And also my joined bed and all the furniture thereunto belonging and standing in the chamber over the hall and also my ... and cupboard standing there .. also my chest and all things therein that standeth at my bed head and also my great chest standing in the chamber over the parlour and my bed pan and stools .. and my clock and my new bottle to be delivered unto her by my executor within one month next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto the said Mary Wright my sister the use of the room .. the chamber over the hall and over the parlour where I now dwell for and during the term of her natural life if she shall keep herself unmarried so long, with free liberty of ingress, egress and regress to and for the said Mary Wright my sister, her maid servants attendance or friends to come and go the usual way at all times into and through the yard and house unto and into the said rooms and also to have a convenient place in the yard to lay her wood on for her firing. Item: I give and bequeath unto John Road (?) All that my freehold messuage or tenement with the yards, gardens, orchards, barns, stables, workshops, outhouses and buildings and also my two crofts or parcels of freehold land thereunto belonging (except before executor) unto the said Mary Wright for and during the full term of one whole year next after my decease fully to be completed and ended upon condition the said John Road do not lop, fell or cut down any wood or timber but to preserve it and after the expiration of the said term of one year I give and bequeath all that my freehold messuage and all other my freehold lands (except before excepted) the aforesaid terms to be .. to the proper use and behoof of William Wright son of my brother William Wright and of his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto to four children of my brother William Wright the sum of five pounds apiece of lawful money of England to be paid unto them by William Wright my brother out of the debt of twenty pounds due unto me Upper Bonds (?) and to be paid unto them as they shall accomplish the full age of one and twenty years being demanded. Item: I give and bequeath unto my sister Elizabeth Nash the sum of five pounds apiece of lawful money of England and also five pounds apiece to every one of her children to be paid unto them two years next after my decease by my executor hereafter named being lawfully demanded. Item: I give and bequeath unto William Wright my brother and Alice Road the wife of John Road my sister and Mary Wright my sister All the rest of my moveable goods and household stuff not before bequeathed and all my hives of bees to be valued and parted between them within one month next after my decease by three men whom they shall appoint to part them. Item: I give and bequeath unto John Road and my will and mind is that the said John Road or his assigns shall have and take the profit of the .. and grass that shall grow in .. until Michaelmas Day next and no longer. Item: I give to the Minister for a funeral sermon ten shillings. Item: I give to the poor people of Henham ten shillings to be given to such poor people as my executor shall think best to earn it. D/ACW 19/56 1677 11th July | In the name of God Amen the sixteenth day of December in the eight and twentieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland king, Defender of the faith Anno Dom. 1676 I, John Turner of Henham in the county of Essex, yeoman, being not in health but of perfect mind and memory ... Item: I give and bequeath unto Sarah my wellbeloved wife all that my customary messuage or tenement situate in Henham aforesaid with all the yards, gardens, barns, stables, outhouses and buildings and all other my customary lands withall their appurtenances thereunto belonging lying and being within the parish of Henham aforesaid for and during the term of her natural life upon those conditions following That is to say, That the said Sarah my wife or her assigns do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto my mother in law late the wife of Matthew Turner my father, the full sum of twenty shillings a year yearly during her life she lawfully demanding it at my now dwelling house situate in Henham aforesaid, and also the said Sarah my wife or her assigns do well and sufficiently maintain and keep all the said leases and f... belonging to the said messuage in sufficient repair And also the said Sarah my wife or her assigns shall not fall down or stock (?) up any of the trees growing upon the said customary lands or parcels And after her decease if I happen to depart this life without issue begotten of her body to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of Jonas Thompson (?) son of my sister Mary Thompson and of his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto the said Sarah my wife the sum of forty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her by my executor within one half year next after my decease being lawfully demanded. Item: I give and bequeath unto the said Sarah my wife my joined bed withall the furniture standing in the parlour, three chests, one trunk, my cupboard standing in the parlour, my long table and two forms standing in the hall and two chairs and all my linen, the biggest of the biggest kettles, one skillet, the pestle and mortar, two tubs, one barrel, one pail, one pillion, one .. and one .., one basting ladle, two candlesticks, one ..., the .. and the hearth iron, two wooden dishes and .. and one bowl and one wooden platter to be delivered unto her by my executor within one month next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Mary Thompson my sister the sum of five pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her by my executor within one year next after my decease being lawfully demanded if in case my wife shall have not issue by me within nine months next after my decease. Item: Item: I give and bequeath unto Richard Clarkson my uncle the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him by my executor hereafter named within one year next after my decease being lawfully demanded. If in case my wife shall have no issue by me within nine months next after my decease Item: I give and bequeath unto George Hammond my uncle the sum of fifteen pounds of lawful money of England to be paid out of my moveable goods and chattels upon condition the said George Hammond my uncle, his executors or assigns do well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto my cousin Jonas Thompson the full sum of five pounds of lawful money of England when as the said Jonas Thompson shall accomplish the full age of one and twenty years according to the legacies given unto him by the last will and testament of Matthew Turner my father deceased always provided that the said Jonas Thompson do give and acquittance for the discharge of the said five pounds given by his grandfather aforesaid. Item: I give and bequeath unto Robert Wright my brother in law my two houses and the stock of my two farms and all my moveable goods and chattel not before by me bequeathed upon condition that the said Robert Wright do take the two houses and the stock of the two farms and household stuff at such price as two men he making chief of one of them shall value them at within one month next after my decease, always provided that the said Robert Wright do pay or otherwise do give sufficient satisfaction unto my executor for the full value thereof as my executor shall allow and accept of, And if in case the said Robert Wright shall refuse to take it as two men shall allow it Then my will and mind is that my executor shall make sale of them to the best advantage And the money thereof to take and pay all my debts and legacies and funeral charges and the probate of this my last will and testament and his own charges and disbursements therein to be allowed And the residue of the .. thereof to keep in his hands and to be improved for the use of my cousin Jonas Thompson and Mary Thompson until such time as my cousin Mary Thompson shall accomplish the full age of eighteen years of age And then to be equally parted between them if in case I shall have no child or issue then living. Item: I give and bequeath unto Symon Hayward for my best suit of apparel to be delivered unto him within one month next after my decease by my executor hereafter named. D/ACW 19/58 1677 23rd April | In the name of God Amen the three and twentieth day of April in the nine and twentieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland king, Defender of the faith Anno Dom. 1677 I, Mary Mills of Henham in the county of Essex, spinster, being sick of body but of perfect mind and memory ... Item: I give and bequeath unto John Parsley of Henham aforesaid, husbandman, the lease of my tenement whereunto I now dwell withall the term of years yet to come to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of the said John Parsley, his executors and administrators and Also during the said term therein ... Item: I give and bequeath Alice Bray widow the sum of twelve pence to be paid unto her by my executor within one week next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto William Wenham my son in law the sum of five shillings to be paid within one month after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Thomas Perrin my son five pounds of lawful money of England to be paid within two years after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Samuel Hagard my son in law and Mary his wife the sum of thirteen pounds of good and lawful English money to be paid to him, her or them within one year after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Ann Clark my daughter the sum of thirteen pounds of lawful English money to be paid her within six months after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Thomas Perrin my grandchild, son of John Perrin my son deceased, the sum of forty shillings to be paid within three years after. All the rest of my goods and chattels, moveables, bill bonds debates ..... rents and arrears of rents and all things what so ever not yet bequeathed I give and bequeath unto Ann Clark my daughter And I hereby nominate, appoint and declare her to be my sole executrix and to pay all my debts and funeral charges and discharge all legacies and sums of money hereby or herein bequeathed And lastly I do revoke all other wills and declare this to be my last will and testament. I do ordain, give and dispose the same in manner and form following,m that is to say Firstly I will that all those debts and duties as I owe in right or cont... to any manner of person or persons whatsoever shall be well and truly contented and paid or ordered to be paid in a convenient time after my decease by my executor hereafter named. Imprimis: I do give and bequeath to my cousin Margaret the wife of Edward Yarwood of Puckeridge one one flock bed and flock bolster, a little kettle holding about two quarts and a little pot and two hutches (?) such as my executor shall give .. Item: I give to my brother John Grosse one shilling. Item: I give to John Wetherspoon (?) the son of Alexander Wetherspoon deceased three pounds to bind him out to a .. D/ACW 19/108 1678 23rd Dec | In the name of God Amen the Ninth day of April Anno Dom. 1676 I, John Parsley of Henham in the county of Essex, husbandman, being sick of body but of perfect mind and memory ... Item: I give and bequeath unto Mary Hawkins my daughter the sum of one shilling to be paid unto her by my executrix within one month next after my decease being lawfully demanded. Item: I give and bequeath unto Abraham Hawkins the sum of twenty shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto him by my executrix within one year next after my decease being lawfully demanded and his acquittance shall be her discharge. Item: I give and bequeath unto Mary Mills the sum of thirty shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto her within one week next after my decease Also I give unto the said Mary Mills all the wood in the yard upon condition the said Mary Mills do deliver or cause to be delivered unto my executrix or her assigns all those my moveable goods that I now have in her house within one week next after my decease being demanded. And if in case the said Mary Mills shall and do refuse the delivering of the said goods then I do hereby give unto her only but one shilling. Item: I give and bequeath unto Mary Richardson my grandchild the sum of three pounds to be paid unto her by my executrix within six months next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Susanna Richardson and Francis Richardson my grandchildren the sum of twenty shillings apiece to be paid unto them within one year next after my decease and their acquittances unto my executrix shall be her discharge. I bequeath unto William Bush my eldest son the sum of one shilling to be paid unto him within one month next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto George Bush my son the same and like sum one shilling to be paid unto him within two months next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto John Bush my son the same and like sum one shilling to be paid unto him within three months next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Edward Bush the same and like sum one shilling to be paid unto him within four months next after my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Michael Bush my son the same and like sum one shilling to be paid unto him within five months next after my decease. These bequests are to be paid unto my said sons at my dwelling house being in Henham in Pledgdon Hamlet in the county of Essex as aforesaid being lawfully demanded. Item: I .. give unto Josias (?) Item: I give and bequeath unto John Young my grandchild the son of Robert Young my son all that my freehold messuage or tenement situate within the parish of Rickling in the county of Essex aforesaid withall the yards, gardens, orchard and buildings and all; my freehold lands thereunto belonging now in the occupation of John Squires or of his assigns to be and remain to the proper use and behoof of the said John Young my grandchild and of his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto Mary Squire the daughter of my daughter Hannah Young alias Squire the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto Hannah Young alias Squire her mother by my executor within six months next after my decease And my daughter Hannah acquittance shall be my executor's discharge. Imprimis (in the first place) I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping to be made ..taker of life everlasting and my body to the earth to be decently interred with Christian burial at the discretion of my executrix and executor hereafter mentioned Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Bacon all that my now dwelling house or tenement situate in Henham aforesaid And all the yards, gardens, orchards, backsides, barns, stables, outhouses and buildings with all their premises and appurtenances whatsoever hereunto belonging to him and his heirs for ever he my said son paying and discharging the mortgage and all other incumbrances which are upon the said premises. Item: I give and bequeath unto my dear beloved wife Mary all those my two several messuages or tenements one called or known by the name of 'Dunres' and the other called or known by the name of 'Trotts' both which premises are situate and being in Henham aforesaid with all yards, gardens, orchards, barns, outhouses and buildings whatsoever to the same belonging, or in any appertaining for and during the natural life of my said wife Mary, and after her decease I give and bequeath unto my son William Bacon all that said messuage or tenement called 'Dunres' with all yards, gardens, orchards, barns, outhouses and buildings whatsoever thereunto belonging with all their appurtenances for and to him and his heirs and assigns for ever And I give and bequeath unto my son James Bacon the other messuage or tenement called 'Trotts' aforesaid with all yards, gardens, orchards and outhouses whatsoever to him and his heirs and assigns for ever after the death of his mother. D/ACW 23/96 1704 24th Nov | In the name of God Amen, I Clement Halls of Henham in the county of Essex, yeoman, being very sick and weak in body but of a sound disposing mind and memory and understanding praises the almighty god for the same but considering my mortality do for the settling and disposing of that worldly estate it hath pleased God to hand me make, publish and .. this revoking all others to be my last Will and Testament And first and principally I commend my soul to God that gave it assuredly .. to enjoy everlasting life through the merits of my Blessed Saviour Jesu8s Christ and my Body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor and executrix hereafter named. Item: I give, devise and bequeath unto my eldest daughter Mary now the wife of John Plum junior and to her heirs for ever all that my freehold messuage or tenement situate and being in the parish of Elsenham in the said county of Essex now in the tenure or occupation of the said John Plum her husband together with all the barns, stables and other outhouses, orchards, yards and gardens, and also all the freehold lands thereto belonging with their appurtenances, and likewise I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary now the wife of John Plum junior the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid to her or her assigns by my executors hereafter named within three months after my decease and interest for the same at the rate of five pounds per cent per annum, until paid, to commence from the day of my decease. Item: I give and bequeath unto Dorras (Doris ?) my wife all the rest of my freehold and copyhold lands and tenements within the parish of Takeley in the said county of Essex, to have and to hold to her and her assigns during the term of her natural life, she the said Dorras my wife or her assigns keeping all the said houses and buildings in good and tenantable repair, and not making committing or permitting any voluntary waste of any wood or timber growing or which shall be growing upon the premises, or any other waste whatsoever. Item: I give and bequeath unto Sarah my daughter now wife of Daniel Willey the younger the sum of thirty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid to her within twelve months after my decease. And whereas John Plum son and father of my son in law John Plum hath refused and yet doth refuse to make a settlement of ten pounds per annum upon my son in law John Plum and my abovesaid daughter Mary now I do order, will and appoint my executors to use all lawful means to pressure , sue and force the said John Plum senior to make the said settlement according to the condition of a bond he hath given for that purpose, and to pay all lawful and reasonable charges out of my estate, which shall be occasioned thereby. Also the rest of my goods, chattels, household stuff, money at interest and other my personal estate whatsoever. I Daniel Willey of Henham in the County of Essex, yeoman being infirm in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to Almighty God for the same Do Therefore ordain, make and declare this my Testament and last Will in manner and form following (that is to say) first and principally ...I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth my loving wife for and during the term of her natural life all that my copyhold messuage or tenement in Henham aforesaid wherein the widow Paynes doth now dwell and from and after the decease of the said Elizabeth I Will, give and devise the said copyhold messuage or tenement or.. unto my grandson Daniel Willey, son of my son Daniell Willey, and to his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give, devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Wright of the parish of Ugley in the county of Essex, wheelwright, after the decease of my wife Susanna all that my copyhold messuage or tenement wherein he now dwells together with all the houses, outhouses, edifices, buildings, barns, stables, yards, gardens and other appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging, also all those my four several closes, pieces or parcels of arable land and pasture ground to the same messuage or tenement adjoining and belonging by estimation ten acres more or less now in my own tenure or occupation as the yard all included and comprehended in a jointure or settlement made by me upon the said Susanna my wife, unto him the said Thomas Wright and his heirs for ever.
