The prefabs that both Timothy Johnston and Bryan Goodchild refer to in their respective autobiographies were built in School Lane behind Cornerstones. They were delivered on the backs of lorries, driven down Carters Lane.

They were built after the World War II as emergency housing. There were five built. They were still being used by Essex County Council for short term accomodation until they were finally demolished in batches in 1975, 1984 and the final two in 1991.
